When you become a child of God, he blesses you with many wonderful things. Your old self is no longer and you become a new creation in Christ! Jesus tells us to deny our sinful nature and to crucify our flesh everyday. He wants us to possess all the traits that he has and not the traits of satan, the evil one. So what are the traits of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul identifies nine traits of Christ in the book of Galatians chapter 5 verses 22-23. Paul calls these nine traits the fruits of the spirit. The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the traits of God and these are the traits that he wants living in us. Not hatred, selfishness, anger, deceitfulness etc…
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. (Galatians 5:16, 17 NLT)
Be more like Jesus and less like you. Live by the spirit and follow him in ever part of your life. Train your spirit to be in line with Gods spirit. Fight against your sinful nature and don’t let it prevail over you. Jesus has set us free and provided us with the tools to live like him. Obey Christ spirit and he will lead you down the right path.
Verse of the day:
22But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22, 23 NLT)
Challenge of the day:
While memorizing the verse of the day, really meditate on the nine fruits of the spirit. Out of the nine, which ones do you struggle with in your life? Do you struggle with faithfulness, or self control? Is it hard for your to find peace in your life?
Today I challenge you to identify which fruit(s) of the spirit that you feel you are lacking or struggling with and pray about it. Bring it to God and ask him to help you overcome the obstacles that are causing you to struggle with that certain fruit. If you are an impatient person then ask God for more patience. Go to God with a sincere heart and ask him. God will provide what you need.
