jesus in the eye

jesus in the eye34 “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness. (Luke 11:34)

Have you ever noticed that what your eyes see is what gives you the desires of both your heart and your flesh? It is what you fix your eyes on in this world that stirs the emotions in your heart. When you constatnly open a bible and read the word of God with your eyes then your heart is filled with His truths and as a result you become more like Him. When you constantly cast your eyes on worldly things then you start to behave like the people of this world.

Have you ever gone to the store and didn’t know that you wanted something until you saw it with your eyes? Then you start to get that impulse building up inside you and you began to contemplate if you should buy the item or if you can even afford it? Next thing you know your skipping out of the exit doors of the store singing hallelujah with the item in your hand and less money in your pocket. Did you see how easy that was? Maybe you just walked into the store to buy a light bulb when you saw that four hundred dollar jacket hanging on the rack. You didn’t know you wanted it but its beauty caught your eye and you just had to have it and now its yours.

Like the very expensive jacket that you just purchased in the store, your eyes must be careful that what you think is beautiful may actually not be good for you. Sometimes there is buyers remorse. Maybe you could not really afford to buy that jacket and in the long run it will clothe you with heartache. What you saw with your eyes was not good for you even though you thought it was beautiful. Take off the jacket and clothe yourself with Christ for He is beautiful and he is free to whomever cast their eyes on Him. After all, that beautiful expensive jacket that your eyes led you into purchasing will eventually end up on the floor anyways right?

If you see Christ in the world then you will have a desire to strive to be like Him, but if you do not see Christ in this life then all you will see is the world and you will never look into the eyes of Jesus. You will know only this world, and you become what you see. Remember that what you see is what you get.

You are most likely wondering about today’s peculiar picture that I attached to this post. Follow theses instructions that I’m going to give you and the picture will come more into focus for you. Stare at the four dots in the middle of the picture for thirty seconds. Then close your eyes and keep them shut. When you are focused on Jesus, you are never in the dark; even when your eyes are closed.

Verse of the day:

35 Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. (Luke 11:35)

Challenge of the day:

Today I challenge you to stay focused on Jesus. Don’t let your eyes bring darkness and sin into your life. Don’t let your eyes trap you. Cast your eyes on Him and His goodness and not on the behaviors of the world. If there is something enticing you in your life today that is not of God then look away. You may be surprised that if you keep looking away from it, the temptation and even the thought of it will slowly fade away. Make sure to take notice when this happens for future battles.
